What is Optometry?
Optometry is the study of examining the eyes for problems and providing care and treatment to maintain and store the eyesight of the person. Optometrists are crucial to society because,, your eyes can give crucial clues about your health, allowing healthcare providers like doctors and optometrists to spot life-threatening conditions such as arthritis, diabetes and even tumours. Optometrist conducts eye examinations to detect and treat vision problems and to search and prevent any eye disease. They study how to correct short-sightedness by prescribing spectacles, understanding how to identify different eye diseases and also how to provide different eye-related services.
There are various occupations for optometry which include; optician, optometrist and ophthalmologist. Opticians are responsible for dispensing corrective lenses to adjust a person’s vision. Optometrist are responsible for recognising and diagnosing eye diseases and other chronic health problems. Finally, Opthalmologist are medical doctors who specialise in the field of eye care.
