What is Logistics?
Logistics is about the process of planning and managing the flow of goods and services from the point of production or the sender all the way to the consumer / receipiant. Logistics allows business to have the ability to move effectively and efficiently into the hands of the consumer.
In addition to logistics, there is another field that deals with something similar. Supply chain management is also about the planning managing the flow of goods and services. However, it focuses more on the entire supply chain from products to sales. It involves; product development, demand/supply planning, and inventory management and control.
Both fields will teach you the various aspects of logistics management operation and the key processes involved in ensuring the effectiveness of a supply chain operation.
Field of Logistics
Relates to identifying customer needs and developing products to be manufactured and integrated into the best supply flow
Relates to the obtaining of products and materials from external suppliers
Relates to the production and supplying of products to the distributing medium
Relates to the movement of a product or service to the customers
Relates to the efficient and effective storing of goods to reduce company’s expenses by reducing manpower cost, loading and unloading facilities, etc.
