Applying science and mathematics
to build and improve humans’ lifestyles

What is Engineering?

Engineering is applying science and mathematics to build and design things to improve humans’ lifestyles, such as electronic devices, structure, and building. By studying engineering, you will solve various engineering problems and design solutions and systems to help society, health and safety, and environmental concern. The exciting part is that you will develop your products, processes, or systems that are economical, sustainable, and effective.

Why Consider Engineering?

There will always be problems to solve, improvements to make and new things to learn, and therefore a rewarding career pathway is there.

An engineer’s salary can be lucrative especially in high-demand industries. Skills and knowledge you learn can be applied globally. Engineering can be a fulfilling career especially when you fit into these traits required to be a successful engineer.

  • Curiosity to understand how things work
  • Motivated to solve complex problems
  • Constantly looking for ways to improve
  • Interest to design and create new things
  • Love to be creative but think critically
  • Huge love for math and science
  • Strong perseverance and thrive under pressure

Fields of Engineering

Deal with converting raw material and chemicals into useful and valuable materials, such as food processing, plastic production, and petroleum refining

Deal with construction, design, machines, and mechanical systems—for example, medical devices and industrial equipment

Deal with designing, developing, and operating machinery and electrical systems and electronic circuits, such as designing microprocessor-based computer systems

Deal with designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining a built environment—for example, railways, dams, buildings, and roads

Minimum Requirements for a Degree in Engineering

To pursue a degree in engineering, you will need a pass in Mathematics and physics in qualifications.

Do note different universities have varying requirements.
